GGM Carlito with IKF President Cyrus

IKF President Grandmaster Cyrus Lagumen Sr.

Grandmaster Cyrus Lagumen Sr. was born in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. He is the eldest child of Samuel Lagumen and Francisca Ranay. His father started to teach him karate when he was around eight years old. In 1988, Kyud Cyrus and his family migrated to Norfolk, VA. He was very interested in studying Martial Arts since his childhood. He went out looking for the best Martial Arts School, but he couldn’t find one. Shortly after Kyud Cyrus met the GGM Carlito A. Lanada, Sr. in the 1990’s and this is when he enrolled in the International Kuntaw Federation. He came to deeply understand the Kuntaw Martial Arts forms. Kuntaw is an Ancient Art of Native Filipino Hand and Foot fighting using both hard and soft techniques. It is one of the oldest self-defense art systems of unarmed (kuntawan) and armed (kali) fighting devised by Filipino Muslim royalty prior to the Spanish regime. He preferred the way of Kuntaw Martial Arts over other forms of martial arts. From this point forward he was encouraged and inspired by his mentors (GGM Lito Lanada) to teach Kuntaw. The Kuntaw Virginia Chapter was established and founded on 1990 by GGM Carlito A. Lanada.

Grandmaster Cyrus Lagumen was a Deputy Sheriff serving in Norfolk, VA from 2000-2004. He then moved on to become an Officer of the Federal Law Enforcement from 2004, which is a position that he currently serves in.
